Back to our normally scheduled day trips…

I am not 100% sure how we came to decide to head out to Western Massachusetts but it was likely Thelma sending me one of those links for Only in Your State…have you ever checked those out?  You can find some really cool stuff to do by checking those out!  We found one for a North Shore to South Shore lighthouse road trip and surprisingly, I hadn’t been to a lot of them before…but this trip is definitely not a day trip…more like a week or more so this would be one for another time!

For today, our destination was Three Sisters Sanctuary in Goshen, MA and though I have been to many of the towns in Western Massachusetts over the decades I had never heard of Goshen. Totally not like me but the plan was to head out by 9:00-9:30 because we thought it would take a few hours to get there…nope, not that long but it was worth getting out early because it was a hot day.  Three Sister’s Sanctuary is a very cool spot.  It is where art meets nature – 8 acres of perennial, stone and water gardens combined with art installations built over the last 25 years. The creator and founder, Richard M. Richardson started this and it is amazing!  I would like to share the entire story but it is easier to share the link…there is an Air bnb here also…I will be staying here in the next few weeks…there were a few nights available in September and I grabbed them!  I love the sanctuary and this area of the state!

Get ready to enjoy the intrigue of this spot…so much to see…so little time!  What is considered seven rooms of stone gardens, flower gardens, sculpture…just generally cool and interesting items to explore! Lots of pictures…and I don’t think there are any duplicates…and…there is a fire breathing dragon not to mention a teeny tiny bit of fall foliage already. And let’s not forget the weird fairy dolls hanging/flying from the rafters of a shelter. There are also a couple of pictures mixed in there of the owners house/Airbnb…

And this ends the Three Sister’s Sanctuary portion of the day…time to go get lunch! We ended up at Wolfie’s in South Deerfield. An interesting place and we opted to eat inside since it was so hot out…first time both of us had eaten inside a restaurant since the whole Covid thing started. It was not an issue because there were only 3 other groups there and everyone was very well spaced apart. Their claim to fame is their Wolfie burger but both Thelma and I oped for a salad…quite large and delicious! No dessert for us today!

Before heading to lunch we did decide to go check out something we found on TripAdvisor that is in this area…Poet’s Seat Tower in Greenfield, MA. Very cool place except for the drone that kept flying/hovering over us. We climbed to the top of the tower after doing a little bit of exploring on the other side of it. When we got to the top, there was a drone coming toward us…and then it hovered there for what seemed like forever before flying off. As distracting as it was I think it was hovering hoping we would get frustrated or annoyed and move away because we were ruining a potential shot?

And this ends our awesome day trip to the Goshen/South Deerfield/Greenfield towns in Western Massachusetts. Hope you enjoyed the day.
