A splash of Carrie Underwood + Dorothy, Toto & Co…

I was running late checking out this morning while I checked out what I might want to see as where I might want to go for breakfast.  I decided on both and headed out the door after the official check out time.  No one seemed to notice or care.  I headed to Corkie’s Diner.  Not a diner as I typically think of one and I sat for awhile before I figured out you have to go up to the counter to place your order.  I also discovered I left my wallet in the car so I had to run back out.  After placing my order I once again sat & waited…do I go get my food, will someone call me, will someone bring it over?  Someone brought it over.  The food was decent though it was fairly empty considering it was after noon.

The only real destination I had set for the day was to visit The Oz Museum in Wamego, KS.  It is not quite 90 minutes from Salina but a lot of it is winding roads.  Turns out this was very close to where I was last fall on the I-90 road trip.  I had seen a sign in the fall but felt it would be too far out of my way at that time.  My feeling was…you can’t go to KS and not see Dorothy!  At the time I arrived I was the only person there besides the woman working.  This place is so much fun and a lot of childhood memories flashed through my head.  Some things I had never seen or heard of before.

When I pulled into a parking space outside the museum there was a truck parked there…and that is where Carrie Underwood comes in!  I didn’t actually see her (I did back in ’16 at the Grand Ole Opry) but she was all over the side of that truck.  Someone did an amazing job fulfilling someone’s dream!

Driving away from Wamego heading for MO I passed through a town with a little bit of history and I had to rely on my compass to tell me where I was…Hinerville, KS.  Well, when looking up the historic schoolhouse I googled it.  It is on Hinerville RD but I guess it is actually in Alma, KS.  I wanted to be able to go in and look around but it was all locked up.

Tonight I headed for The Country Inn & Suites in Columbia, MO…I am going to drive around MO for awhile tomorrow before moving on to IL.  You can’t be in MO and not see at least the St. Louis arch. Be sure to come back for the journey!

See you on the road!

To move, to breathe, to fly, to float, To gain all while you give, To roam the roads of lands remote: To travel is to live. – Hans Christian Andersen
