I had a couple things on my list of things to see today on the road to Indianola but first I had to stop for breakfast…at Eggsellent Cafe! I guess this is a fairly large chain in the south and I don’t typically do chains preferring local diners but the name appealed to me so off I went. It was a delicious, inexpensive breakfast served by a very friendly waitress. Worth the stop!
Feeling nourished and primed for the day, I hit the road. I did go through Tennessee briefly in the travels and made a stop in Memphis at a spot to check out the skyline at Mud Island Park. I also got to see the Hernando de Soto Bridge from down in this area at one end and the Memphis–Arkansas Bridge at the other with the lovely Mississippi River flowing underneath them. I had no real plan to go into TN but it was on the way to my destination. I have been to Memphis before but certainly not to this section and it was worth getting off the highway to check it out.
One last specific stop was to see the 3 Crosses of Calvary at Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, TN. This was another spot I had a hard time finding…I could see the crosses but I couldn’t figure out how to get there and once I got there I had a hard time finding the crosses. I am confessing some embarrassing stuff here…the tallest cross is 150′ tall…I think it was too tall to see from a seated position. I finally saw it from half way across the parking lot when I stopped to look at the picture again to see what I was looking for and lo & behold…there they were!
Next up are some miscellaneous shots driving from AR to MS as well as some of the sunset before checking into my hotel for the next few nights – the Quality Inn in Indianola.
Among other things for the next post I will be visiting the BB King Museum, Kermit the Frog’s birthplace in Leland, MS as well as some other spots so be sure to come back for the journey!
