Touring South Dakota

There is a lot to see in South Dakota and I was looking forward to seeing everything there was to see.  In blog world this road tour through South Dakota lasts from September 26 through October 1, 2018 when I head out of town toward Wyoming.  I visited Falls Park in Sioux Falls before heading out of town to Mitchell and a stay at the Hampton Inn.  Once in Mitchell I enjoyed the Corn Palace (on the I-90 Road Trip Guide), dinner at the Depot Pub & Grille, and Porter Sculpture Park in Montrose, SD. Heading out of Mitchell I made my way to Wall, SD…you know what you are going to see there?  The infamous Wall Drug…you will need a bit of time to enjoy all of this stop.  Parking is free and it is best to get there in the morning for the best parking.  You walk inside and the smell of donuts will overwhelm you…it will be like one of those cartoons where you float through the air following the scent of the food! There was an extremely long line of people waiting to get their donuts so I skipped that and enjoyed the rest of the place…2 buildings of kitsch and awesomeness!  They do have a cafe inside if you get hungry but there is also a couple restaurants across the street…I liked the Badlands Saloon & Grille.  A must do stop is the Badlands National Park.  My sister had told me I needed to check this out but until I came up on it in my travels I had no idea…beautiful! The Best Western Plains was a good place to stay in Wall…clean, comfortable sleeping and friendly people.

On the 29th I headed to Rapid City…also a very busy place with plenty to see.  A stay at the Hilton Garden Inn in Rapid City was a good central spot for visiting all the spots I wanted to see.  One of my favorite places to visit was Bear Country USA (I visited a sister site on my spring road trip) but also on my list was the Chapel in the Hills & Museum, the City of Presidents Sculptures in Rapid City though I did not see even close to all of them, the Crazy Horse Memorial, Mount Rushmore, Murphy’s Pub, driving around Keystone & Hill City as well as Rapid City itself.

Well, it seems visiting South Dakota is bigger than I expected with all there was to see and this will have to be continue in another post…see you soon with the continuing story!
